European innovators may win a €2 million prize through the new challenge launched by the EC
The Commission invites European innovators, SMEs and non-profit organisations acting alone or together with other entities to propose disruptive solutions for boosting smart water management in order to help solve the problem of water scarcity. The solutions should be based on self-powered and wireless smart sensing technologies, designed for real-time monitoring of water resources.
This prize is intended to stimulate creative thinking among water distributors, water management equipment suppliers, ICT sector and industrial and academic research organisations. The Commission will choose the best proposals among all those submitted and will invite their innovators to demonstrate them in front of a jury. To select the winner, the jury will take into consideration three criteria:
- positive impact
- innovative design
The prize will be awarded through the EU’s Horizon 2020 Framework Programme for Research and Innovation.
This award has been created with the aim of addressing water scarcity, one of the main European concerns which, along with climate change, the growing world population and the increased urbanization, are some of the factors that drive global challenges for water management.
